    Monahan was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Jack Monahan,[3] a clothing store owner and musician, and Patricia Ann (née Timon) Monahan.[4] Of Irish descent, he is the youngest of seven children and became an uncle at five.[5][6] He attended McDowell High School in Millcreek Township.
